I was sitting at my desk that day and looking at photos of Reykjavik in Iceland. The sky in the pictures was a kind of cold blue and the houses were gray with snow mountains far away. I opened QEEQ to book a car and I was already imagining myself a few months later driving alone in that cold wind. I felt a bit nervous and also excited. I chose a Suzuki Vitara from FAIRCAR with automatic gear, four doors and five seats. I felt it was just right for a solo traveler like me. Not too big and not too small. I remember the dates were around the middle of April. I would pick up the car in Reykjavik in the afternoon around two something and then return it a few days later early in the morning around seven. I imagined myself driving the car back in the early morning, then walking with my luggage on the cold street. I was actually looking forward to it. At first I only cared about the car and the time. The price looked okay so I just placed the booking. After that I went to do other things and I thought this was done. A bit later I remembered that I chose a service called Price Drop Protector for this order. I only knew that if the price went down they would help me rebook and send the difference back to me. I thought this idea was pretty smart so I clicked it. I did not expect too much from it. The real change came on another day. I was in the school library working on my homework. My phone suddenly shook. I checked it and saw it was a message about my booking. My first reaction was that maybe something was wrong. For a second I was scared and thought maybe there was no car for me anymore or I had to pay more money. Then I read the message a few times and finally understood. The price had dropped a bit and they already rebooked a new order for me and I saved around thirty in my local money. It was not a huge amount but I could feel it. In that moment I felt strangely happy. It was not a big sum of money but it felt like someone suddenly put a small travel fund into my pocket. The most important thing was that I did nothing. I did not compare other websites. I did not cancel or book again. They just did it for me. I was simply writing my report in the library and the car price became cheaper by itself. I kind of earned money for doing nothing. Later I checked the order details more carefully. The new order number was already there. The pick up place was still Reykjavik in Iceland. The company was still FAIRCAR and the car was the same group of model. The times were not messed up. I felt relieved because I was a bit afraid that the cheaper price might bring trouble. I was worried maybe the car would be worse or they would ask me to pay some strange extra fee. It did not happen. For me the whole experience was the same. I only got some money back. That night I lay in bed and scrolled my phone. I looked at those Iceland photos again. I thought about myself a few months later when I walk out of the airport in April wind and find the counter and take the car key in my hand and sit in the Suzuki Vitara. I will adjust the seat and drive slowly out of Reykjavik. I suddenly felt that saving a bit of money is actually very important. When you travel alone you pay for everything by yourself. Every small saving makes your heart feel a little lighter. When I thought back to the moment I added Price Drop Protector to my booking I was glad I did not skip it. Before this I always felt these extra options were a bit useless and just cost more. This time I felt some services really help you with money. I did not have to stare at prices every day. I did not have to keep thinking if the price might be lower later. They watched it for me and when there was a chance they quietly sent the difference back. I later told my friends about this and they were pretty surprised. In their mind platforms usually would not tell you when you can pay less. They just keep the money if you do not ask. I then realized I was kind of lucky and this was a special experience for me. When I finally get to Iceland I think I will remember that small message in the library and think again about that click on the extra service. For a student who travels alone like me, that one small choice actually means something.
