  Original Driver's License in Latin/Roman Alphabet

  Original Driver's Licenses printed in Latin/Roman alphabet (such as English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc.) are acceptable for car rental without the need for an International Driving Permit (IDP). Driver's licenses printed in a non-Roman alphabet (such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc.) must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit.

  Sri Lankan Temporary Driving Permit

  If you only have the local license from the country of your domicile, the car dealer can accompany you to go to DMT (Department of Motor Traffic) to obtain a Temporary Driving Permit. The cost is about 60 EUR and it's subject to the local charge standard.(Please note this process will take a couple of days and the DMT office is open only on Mon - Fri from 8.30 am till 3.30 pm.)

  Tourists must obtain a Temporary Sri Lankan Driving License. The following documents at least one week in advance of the rental start date are requested for the temporary license: International Driving License; Copy of Passport; Passport size colour photo. The fee for this service is 50 GBP, pay on arrival. Cannot be processed through the online pre-registration or check-in service.
